Garden Lessons

This is my fifth year gardening this patch of dirt, but I'm still a novice, working to earn my green thumb. Every year, I learn a little bit more. Allow me to share a few lessons from this year:

If one is foolhardy enough to plant pumpkins next to carrots, the pumpkins will win.

Make sure to plant enough lettuce to share with the rabbits.

Make a compost pile and welcome the stray vegetable plants that may spring from it.

Make gardening a little bit easier on yourself. Embrace perennials.

When in doubt, mulch.

  1. Love it! And also: don't forget to plant some vittles for the deer and groundhogs.

  2. I'm in my fourth year of gardening, and stumbling a lot more than you. But, as Wyatt reminds me, "Nothing's perfect." And I DIDN'T plant pumpkins this year.
